The diesel engine can be availed in either 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox with choices of 2WD and 4WD systems. The Toyota Fortuner can be manoeuvred accordingly through Sequential Shift and Paddle Shifters under different driving modes.

Both petrol and diesel engines have been tuned to provide maximum fuel efficiency. The petrol 2WD manual transmission delivers 10 kmpl, while the automatic variant returns a mileage of 10.26 kmpl. Similarly, the diesel automatic 4WD delivers a mileage of 15.04 kmpl. Moreover, the manual version can return 14.24 kmpl from a litre of fuel.
